Description
This is the most commonly used screed, made using just cement, aggregate and water, delivered directly to your site address on one of quality tipper trucks.
Sand & Cement screeds should only be used as a levelling screed, i.e. as a base for tiles, vinyl, timber flooring etc.
They are ‘semi-dry’ in order to control shrinkage and need a significant amount of work when laying in order to compact them properly. A minimum thickness of 25 mm is required for a fully bonded screed, 50mm for an un-bonded screed and 65mm for a floating screed (i.e. on top of insulation boards). 75mm is the minimum in a commercial environment for a floating screed.
Bonded – screed laid onto a mechanically prepared substrate with the intention of maximising potential bond between screed and substrate.
Un-bonded – screed intentionally separated from the substrate by the use of a membrane.
Floating – screed laid on insulation boards either acoustic or thermal. This is also a type of un-bonded screed.
Very thick sections may need to be laid in more than one layer.
